Humor as a remedy? King Charles III, who has resumed his public activities since the end of April after the announcement of his cancer, joked this Thursday, May 9, during a trip to a military barracks in Surrey, southwest of London.
“I apologize for taking you by surprise. When this opportunity arose and they allowed me to leave my cage, I wanted to come and see,” declared the British sovereign, a scene broadcast by Sky News.
First solo commitment since his cancer.
Absent for almost three months due to cancer, the nature of which was never communicated, King Charles III was able to resume his commitments and his doctors considered the evolution of his state of health to be “very encouraging.”
Buckingham Palace had indicated, however, that the king’s first trips would be “carefully calibrated” and undertaken “in close consultation with his doctors.”
This Thursday, May 9, is his first trip without the presence of Queen Camilla or another member of the royal family. The day before, the royal couple hosted the first garden party of the year at Buckingham, while Prince Harry was in London at the same time for the Invictus Games. However, father and son did not meet due to the king’s agenda, according to a spokesperson for Prince Harry.
