A few hours before the Eurovision final, all of Israel supports its candidate, Eden Golan. In a Tel Aviv bar, a singer known for BFMTV, Lior, covered his song Hurricane for clients.
“It is a source of inspiration for me,” he confesses. “Singing your song here was the most beautiful thing I could do because it is love, joy and memory that we want to transmit to the whole world.”
“It is important that Eden shows another side of us, that it shows that we are still here, that the people of Israel will live and that we will not go anywhere,” insists Glory, a waitress at the bar where Lior sings.
“An opportunity to open up”
For those interviewed by BFMTV, Eden Golan “is the best.” “We hope he wins and brings back Eurovision and joy to Israel,” said a passerby to applause from the spectators.
According to Shooki Wagner, musical producer, this victory would have a considerable impact “because we export an image of Israel and Israeli music”: “It is an opportunity to open up to Europe.”
Eden Golan, 20, got his ticket to the final on Thursday night with the song Hurricanewhose initial version had to be modified because it was considered to allude to the Hamas attack that bloodied Israel on October 7.
In total, twenty-six countries will compete this Saturday night to succeed Sweden as the winner of this contest that in 2023 was followed by 162 million viewers.
