Eurovision “overshadowed” by the conflict between Israel and Hamas: artist Bambie Thug criticizes the organizers

Irish artist Bambie Thug, known for his pro-Palestine positions, challenged the organizers of the Eurovision song contest a few hours before the final.

Bambie Thug, who is representing Ireland at Eurovision 2024, criticized the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), organizer of the competition, saying the event had been “completely overshadowed” by the war between Israel and Hamas.

As pro-Palestine protests take place in Malmö, the artist told Sky News: “The atmosphere is incredibly tense. To be honest, I don’t think the candidates are enjoying the atmosphere.”

Bambie Thug, whose clothing originally carried messages of “ceasefire” and “freedom for Palestine” that he was “ordered” to delete, called on the EBU to “be aware of the situation” and “show humaneness” in this tense context.

Tears

The artist revealed that he “cried” when his team found out that Israel had qualified for the Eurovision final. Eden Golan, Israel’s candidate, will participate tonight with the song Hurricane.

The initial version of this piece, titled october rainIt had to be modified because it was considered to refer to the Hamas attack that bloodied Israel on October 7, 2023.

Last March, Bambie Thug was one of nine Eurovision contestants – including Britain’s Olly Alexander and Switzerland’s Nemo – who called for a ceasefire in Gaza and the release of Israeli hostages.
