Eurovision, where the French candidate Slimane finished fourth on Saturday night, was a ratings success for France 2, with nearly 5.4 million viewers, the public broadcaster announced on Sunday, citing data from Médiamétrie.
This audience is close to that of the 2021 edition, in which Barbara Pravi obtained second place. That year, the song contest was followed by 5.5 million viewers in France.
This is the best French audience for Eurovision since 2009 (5.7 million viewers, 32.3% screen share, then on France 3). It was Patricia Kaas who then defended the colors of France (eighth in the competition).
Best performance in 10 years
In terms of audience share (i.e. the proportion of viewers who follow the programme), Slimane does even better than Barbara Pravi: Eurovision 2024 reached an audience share of 36.8%, up from 31.4% in 2021 .
If this criterion of audience share is taken, France 2 achieved “its best result in 10 years for the first part of the evening (without sports),” the network specified. The peak of 7.62 million viewers was reached shortly after 11:00 p.m. with Slimane’s appearance on stage with his song. My love.
Last year, Eurovision attracted an average of 3.5 million French viewers, or a 25.6% audience share. On Saturday it was the Swiss artist Nemo who won Eurovision with The codeat the end of a 2024 edition organized in Sweden and marked by lively controversy over Israel’s participation in the middle of the war in the Gaza Strip.
