Archewell, Meghan and Harry’s foundation, is in the crosshairs of the American authorities. The California Charities Census Bureau included it on its list of “delinquent” organizations for “failing to transmit its annual reports and/or renewal fees,” according to a letter dated May 3 broadcast by Sky News. What the Sussexes defend themselves against.
“An organization listed as delinquent (…) no longer has the right to (…) request or disburse charitable funds,” the letter continues. “The organization may be subject to sanctions and its census may be suspended or even revoked by the office.”
According to NBC News, it was Archewell’s registration renewal fee payment check with the Census Bureau that was not received on time. The foundation says the check was sent on time but was lost en route and a new check was sent.
“Payments were made immediately”
“We have carefully investigated and can confirm that the Archewell Foundation is in full compliance and up to date with its payments,” a spokesperson for the foundation told E! News Monday, May 14.
“The payments were made immediately and in accordance with the processes of the IRS (US agency responsible for collecting income tax and taxes, editor’s note),” the spokesperson continues. “In addition, the foundation submitted all necessary documents without errors or workmanship failures.”
After sending the second check, Archewell expects to resolve the issue within seven business days.
