First trailer for “Monsieur Aznavour”, biographical film with Tahar Rahim

Grand Corps Malade and Mehdi Idir are shooting a biographical film about Charles Aznavour, with Tahar Rahim. The first images of “Monsieur Aznavour” have just been revealed on the occasion of the singer’s centenary this May 22.

“They haven’t finished hearing about Aznavour yet,” says the artist in the first trailer of the biopic dedicated to him by Grand Corps Malade and Mehdi Idir, the duo of Patients in 2016 and student services office in 2019.

Inside Mr. Aznavour, in theaters on October 23, 2024, address the myth of the singer, who would have turned 100 this May 22. Tahar Rahim plays the artist in this much-awaited film. He only appears a little in this first trailer, where we only see him from behind.

Piaf and Hallyday

This biographical film traces the career of Charles Aznavour, born in Paris into a family of exiled Armenians and educated at the School for Children of the Show, then founded by Edith Piaf in the late 1940s.

Around Tahar Rahim, actors Victor Meutelet, Rupert Wynne-James, Bastien Bouillon and Marie-Julie Baup play Johnny Hallyday, Frank Sinatra, Pierre Roche (with whom Aznavour formed a duo early in his career) and Edith Piaf.

Tahar Rahim, 42, was revealed to the public in 2009 in a prophet by Jacques Audiard, where he played the lead role, that of a recluse. Since then he has starred in several international productions, such as the series The snake inspired by the life of criminal Charles Sobhraj, or even Pleaded guiltywith Jodie Foster, and the recent Napoleon by Ridley Scott.

“A great admirer”

“When they offered it to me this fall, I didn’t know if I could do it…” Tahar Rahim said in March 2023 in an interview with Le Parisien. “But I am a big fan of the artist and his career, the challenge is extraordinary and I love the work of Grand Corps Malade and Mehdi Idir.”

Referring to this role and his physical transformation to get into the singer’s skin, he also explained: “There has to be a resemblance, but it’s more about embodiment and evocation: I don’t want to find myself with a mask on my head.
