Prince William met with D-Day veterans on Wednesday, June 5, on Southbeach beach in Portsmouth. One of them asked about Kate’s health, who was being treated for cancer, hoping that she would improve. “Indeed,” replied the prince.
“She would have loved to be here today,” he added, then exchanging a few words with the man in the chair.
The excitement was palpable in Portsmouth, where the first D-Day celebrations took place this Wednesday, June 5.
King Charles and Queen Camilla wiped away a tear at the memory of the soldiers who fell on the beaches on D-Day on June 6, 1944.
“Eight decades later, it is almost impossible to imagine the emotions felt that day, the pride of being part of such a great mission, the anguish of not being up to the task and the fear that that day would be the last.” he continued.
The three are in Normandy on June 6 to attend the commemorations, along with Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and around twenty heads of state.
Absent from Trooping the color
The Princess of Wales, who announced in March that she had cancer, has not appeared in public since last December. Absent from the commemorations of the 80th anniversary of the Landing, she will also not attend the Trooping the Color festivities on June 15. She, too, will not participate in The Colonel’s Review military parade on June 8.
Kensington Palace has not given any information on the date of return to public life for the Princess of Wales, who explained in a video in March that she was receiving preventive chemotherapy.
