DJ Clark Kent, hip-hop pioneer known for having been a producer for Jay-Z and Mariah Carey, died at the age of 58 due to colon cancer, his family announced on Friday, October 25 on his Instagram account.
“It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Rodolfo A. Franklin, also known as DJ Clark Kent,” the statement said. “Clark died Thursday night. His wife Kesha, daughter Kabriah and son Antonio were at his side.”
“Clark silently fought colon cancer for three years while continuing to offer his talent to the world,” added those close to him, thanking fans for their support. “We ask you to respect our grief.”
From Jay-Z to Mariah Carey
The legendary figure of hip-hop, DJ Clark Kent, had produced several songs that became classics such as The best of Brooklyn by Jay-Z and Notorious BIG in 1996. He also signed a remix of lover by Mariah Carey in 2001.
DJ Clark Kent began his career in the late 80s in New York. He had his first success with a remix of spread your wings by the R&B group Troop in 1989.
DJ Clark Kent later produced I need you tonight AND Player Anthemtwo songs from the album Conspiracy by Junior MAFIA Player Anthem is the first song by rapper Lil’ Kim.
DJ Clark Kent was also known for his passion for sneakers and his huge sneaker collection. He had collaborated with brands such as Adidas and Nike.
