It seems that the drama surrounding Olivia Wilde’s Don’t Worry Darling is getting weirder by the day. While things looked awkward last week, they took an interesting turn when the highly anticipated film premiered at the Venice Film Festival last weekend. In the middle of the proceedings, a video was posted online that convinced fans that Harry Styles had spat on Chris Pine. Now Pine’s agent is speaking and responding to the claims.
The music video, which has reportedly garnered 1.4 million views since it was uploaded over the weekend, shows the cast sitting in the room just before the screening. The video shows Olivia Wilde and Chris Pine sitting in their row before Harry Styles joins them. It’s when Harry Styles joins them and takes a seat that many believe the singer is spitting on his co-star. A Pine rep responded to the viral controversy in a statement sent to Variety and vehemently denied the idea that such a thing had really happened:
It’s a ridiculous story: a complete invention and the result of a bizarre online illusion that is clearly misleading and allows for silly speculation. Just to be clear, Harry Styles didn’t spit on Chris Pine. There is nothing but respect between these two men and any suggestion to the contrary is a blatant attempt to create a drama that simply does not exist.
Commercial sources also appear to support the rep’s claims. As far as Variety knows, there was no tension between the two stars while promoting their production at the festival. The outlet also reports that none of the premiere attendees mentioned a spitting incident of any kind.
This alleged spitting incident comes amid an alleged drama involving Florence Pugh, Olivia Wilde, and Harry Styles. The former One Direction member was hired to replace Shia LaBeouf after he was reportedly fired from production. However, in late August, LaBeouf claimed he had not been fired from production, but instead decided to quit and provided emails to support his claims of him. A leaked video of Wilde also showed the director asking LaBeouf to consider returning to production.
One moment that really stood out in this video was when Olivia Wilde claimed that Shia LaBeouf’s return could be a kind of “wake up call for Miss Flo”, referring to Florence Pugh. Shortly after this news broke, it was reported that Pugh would do a limited print for Don’t Worry Darling. Speaking to online gossip, Wilde called Pugh a “strong point” and said she didn’t feel the “need” to add rumors.
don’t worry honey will be released in theaters on September 23 as part of the film’s 2022 release schedule.
