William and Anna will not return, there will be no continuation Love at first sight in Notting Hill. It was director Richard Curtis, screenwriter of the feature film released in 1999, who made this confidence to the IndieWire medium.
While promoting his next movie. that christmas which will be released on the Netflix platform, Richard Curtis explained that he wanted to make a mini sequel to the romantic comedy, in the style of a short film as was the case with love in reality in 2017.
“Very bad idea”
But the script proposed to the American actress Julia Roberts did not please the latter. The reason: the plot revolved around the divorce of her character, actress Anna Scott, from her partner William Thacker, the Notting Hill bookstore owner played by Hugh Grant.
“Julia (Roberts, editor’s note) thought it was a very bad idea,” confesses the screenwriter.
An opinion that his screen companion does not share. In an interview with HBO in 2020, British actor Hugh Grant said he supported this sequel project “to show that romantic comedians were all just a horrible lie, with their happy ending.”
“I would love to make a movie with (…) the heartbreaking divorce that follows, with really expensive lawyers, children involved, oceans of tears. Psychologically marked forever. I would love to make this movie,” he had assured.
