The acclaimed actress often found herself reading scripts with the term “strong female lead” characterizing her role. It’s the worst when you open a script and read the words: “strong female lead”. She rolls my eyes, I’m already out. I’m bored. These roles are written as incredibly stoic, you spend all of your time acting tough and saying tough things. Cornelia is more amazing than that. She is innocent without being gullible and that makes her a force to be reckoned with. She surprises Eli with her silence and their differences become irrelevant as they need each other to survive. I thought it was very good.
The Hollywood A-lister just wants to play complex characters, not stereotypes. The role of her revenge-seeking mother may have become a flat archetype, but the protagonist has layers, which Blunt appreciated. His words might come as a bit of a surprise, considering his passion for action and sci-fi movies in recent years, including the upcoming action movie. The scapegoat.
