The end of America has talent Season 17 is fast approaching and the final batch of qualifiers (including comedian Jordan Conley in a set full of Disney references ) will meet their fate just 24 hours after taking the stage with their final performances. It’s been a strong season for singers and magicians in particular, but Mervant Vera managed to combine freestyle rap with magic for her million dollar hit and stage show in Las Vegas. After her last + freestyle round of cards, Judge Simon Cowell said Vera was “nervous,” but the artist told Gossipify that she wasn’t what she felt.
Simon Cowell began his comments on Mervant Vera’s qualifying performance by noting how much he enjoyed her audition and was looking forward to what it would offer in live shows. He later said that he “could feel how nervous you were tonight”, but that pleased Vera “even more”. The nice thing about Cowell’s comments was how much he loved the rap magician, even though he said he noticed the nerves.
When Mervant Vera spoke to Gossipify and other outlets after her performance in qualifiers, I asked her what she thought of Cowell’s comments and if she felt more nervous this time, and she said she cleared the air:
In fact, I didn’t! I was actually more excited, but sometimes when you have more than one stationary act like magic, because I’m standing there, that emotion can come out as a pop, pop. [motions]and maybe little ways to sound nervous. But I was very excited. I can’t say I’m not 100% nervous. Maybe 5%.
Singers, dancers and acrobats can move around in the America has talent they stage as much as they want, but a magician behind a table with props scattered in front of him can’t exactly move. After seeing their performance (which host Terry Crews got to see up close as a contestant), I’d say their excitement was more than justified and most people would be over 5% nervous if they were to rap freestyle. . of magic! Other players can repeat every step they take and every note they sing, but that’s not the case with Mervant Vera.
And Vera brought a potentially winning combination America has talent. Viewers of season 17 are clearly loving the wizards, as Yu Hojin and Nicolas Ribs have already appeared in the finale before taking the stage on September 6. Most of the other finalists are musicians in one form or another.
Also, mastering the Mervant Vera scene without jumping reminds me of season 15 champion Brandon Leake who made history with his victory . Even though spoken word and freestyle rap aren’t the same, Vera keeps her cool on stage in a way reminiscent of Leake, and that’s a compliment considering Leake’s win! Take a look at how Vera performed in qualifying:
The only downside to her performance is that it happened on a very competitive night, with the return of gold star Sofia Vergara Mayyas shaking the house with her routine to close the night (and it can really stand out as the gold top of season 17 ). The episode also featured the return of comedian Jordan Conley, who won the generic vote and released a set full of delightful Disney references.
back to the past of pole dance Kristy Sellars and the dancer Max Ostler (who was a favorite of Sofia Vergara with her audition ), and it was child’s play. Tune in to see if Mervant Vera comes to an end with the results episode of America has talent Wednesday, September 7 at 8pm ET on NBC .
