Having debuted on the pages of fantastic comics # 2 Shazam, the superhero once known as Captain Marvel, took eight decades to create his movie. Fortunately, in 2019 Shazam! received a lot of positive reactions and performed well at the box office, leading to a sequel with the go-ahead. While we have seen some Shazam! fury of the gods Behind-the-scenes looks and concept art from last year’s DC FanDome, the first official trailer for Billy Batson’s upcoming cinematic adventure has finally arrived straight from San Diego Comic-Con, and it shows.
When we were with Asher Angel’s Billy Batson at the end of Shazam!, he had shared his special abilities with his adoptive brothers, so they could now join him as a superhero. In Shazam! fury of the gods, he still is, but since Billy appears in his superpowered form played by Zachary Levi in this trailer (to a pediatrician of all people), not only does he look like a “fraud” like superheroes, but obviously the team dynamic of this family, also known as Shazamily, did not stay together. Well, they’re going to have to get back on their feet, because the characters of Helen Mirren and Lucy Liu are here to cause trouble.
As we have known for some time, Helen Mirren and Lucy Liu play Hespera and Kalypso in respectively Shazam! fury of the godsthese powerful women are two daughters of Atlas, one of the mythological figures from whom Billy Batson and his brothers get their powers. History of the west sideRachel Zegler also plays Hespera and Kalypso’s sister, Antaeus, and we see her briefly in the fury of the gods trailer struck by lightning. However, it is still unclear whether Anteus will help his sisters in their nefarious plan throughout the film, or whether he will end up helping Shazamily.
Either way, Hespera and Kalypso will be enough to keep Shazamily busy during the events of Shazam! fury of the gods, including throwing a dragon at him! An exciting element of the sequel is the return of Djimon Hounsou’s wizard, also known as Shazam. He apparently died during Shazam! after passing his powers to Billy Batson in the Rock of Eternity, but somehow he has returned to warn Billy and the gang of Hespera and Kalypso, and perhaps of the willingness to see them fight. On a more positive note, this trailer also revealed that at some point in the story, Rosa de Marta Milans and Victor de Cooper Andrews, the adoptive parents of the children, will finally learn their superhero activities.
