A global success deserves a sequel. The Warner Bros. studio announced on Thursday in X that a second part of the film adapted from the famous video game minecraft was currently in the works and is scheduled for release on July 23, 2027.
This sequel will be released approximately two years after the phenomenal – and surprise – success of the first work, which premiered in theaters last April and grossed almost $424 million in the United States and $534 million in the rest of the world, according to Box Office Mojo.
Very young audience
Thanks to the enthusiasm of a younger audience and the viral popularity of “Chicken Jockey”, Minecraft, the movie It even became the second highest-grossing Hollywood feature film of 2025, after lilo and stitch from Disney ($1.03 billion at the box office).
If details about this second work are kept secret for the moment, Jared Hess will return to direct. He will co-write the script with Chris Galletta.
The first part told the adventures of four heroes thrown into a world made entirely of cubes. To return home, the quartet had to master this new universe and help Steve (played by Jack Black) in his quest.
Variety reminds that “Minecraft, the movie helped turn the tide at the Warner Bros. box office after the failures of Joker: Folie à Deux, Mickey 17 AND The High Knights.” It was after this film that the studio scored six consecutive hits: Sinners, Final Destination: Bloodlines, F1: The Movie, Superman, Weapons AND Spell: Judgment Hour. To which we must add the recent triumph ofOne battle after another by Paul Thomas Anderson.
