Taylor Swift cancels the release of her film in several foreign countries

While “The Official Release Party of a Showgirl” swept the American and French box offices last weekend, The Hollywood Reporter reveals that the film will not be released in as many countries as expected.

On paper, The official launch party for a showgirl It was scheduled to be released in at least 100 foreign territories by the end of October, in addition to the United States. In any case, this was stated by its distributor, AMC Theaters, in a press release dated September 19. But The Hollywood Reporter revealed Thursday that the film about Taylor Swift, which accompanies the release of her twelfth album, will not finally be released in as many countries as planned.

Specifically, the plan provided that The official launch party for a showgirl will be distributed for the first time from October 3 to 5 in North America, as well as in at least eighteen other foreign markets, including Canada, Mexico, the United Kingdom, Ireland, France, Germany, Switzerland, South Africa, Australia and New Zealand.

Latin America and Asia affected

Other international territories, not listed in the September 19 press release, were also affected, although they are scheduled to be released by the end of October. Details and ticket sales would be announced around October 3.

However, The Hollywood Reporter states that “the date has already passed” and that “the subsequent international release is no longer mentioned, except in a press release about the film’s box office broadcast by AMC on October 5, announcing that ‘this ends’ the broadcast.” by Showgirl“.

According to the specialized site, this decision mainly affects Latin America and certain regions of Asia.

Censorship problem?

How can we explain such a change? If AMC did not want to respond to the Hollywood Reporter’s questions, the latter mentioned several avenues. Firstly, the censorship and classification problems imposed by certain countries, which require a certain amount of time for analysis, a delay that Taylor Swift’s late announcement made impossible.

The issue of subtitles also arises, since the version released last weekend appears to be available only in English. “Taylor Swift exercises considerable control over business decisions,” which could have made this task particularly complex, the specialized site adds. Some sources also believe that the singer’s team simply “wanted to move on.”

A surprising decision in any case, especially since the feature film grossed more than $34.1 million last weekend in the United States, thus surpassing the competition.

Overseas, AMC announced that the film had grossed $50.1 million in sales, including $16 million in revenue, in 54 territories, a vastly different total from the eighteen territories initially mentioned, The Hollywood Reporter reports. Especially since AMC’s competitors claim that they have not been able to confirm its broadcast in so many markets.
