Swans, but without a passport: what privileges will Carlos III have?

Like his mother Elizabeth II, the new King Charles III will not need a passport or driving license and will own all the swans in the UK.

Like any monarch, Queen Elizabeth II, who reigned over the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth for decades, enjoyed many privileges until her death on Thursday. The new king, Carlos III, is also expected to benefit once he officially takes office.

The king can travel without papers. Unlike other members of the royal family, he will not need a passport, as this document is issued in his name.

For the same reason, the British head of state enjoys a very privileged status when it comes to driving, as he is the only Briton who is exempt from having a driving licence.

No vote: the sovereign must remain neutral

Carlos’s mother, Elizabeth II, blew out the candles twice a year.: on the day of his birth, April 21, in private, and during the official celebrations of his birthday, traditionally the second Saturday in June, to escape the vagaries of the English weather.

The king doesn’t just rule over the British. For several centuries, the swans that evolve in open waters around the country have been considered the property of the British monarch. The royal privilege also applies to sturgeons, dolphins and whales in waters around the UK.

The king never slips a ballot into the ballot box: must observe strict political neutrality. Therefore, he does not vote and cannot stand for any vote.

The monarch, however, opens parliamentary sessions and appoints the Prime Minister, with whom he meets periodically.
