Have you ever seen such an imaginative world on your TV that you want to enter and be a part of it? Brie Larson and Elijah Allan-Blitz have just created a way to get your ideas out of the confines of your rectangular screen with their augmented reality short film. to remembernow broadcasts with a Disney + subscription . The New Disney + release is a seven-minute short film that shows an enhanced experience from your iPhone or iPad with exciting inspirations to connect with your inner child.
Gossipify had the opportunity to find out more to remember star / producer Brie Larson and writer / director Elijah Allan-Blitz at Walt Disney Studios, along with many other journalists. After an intimate presentation of the short film and its AR capabilities, available for download at to remember app for iOS (opens in a new tab)Larson explained how it happened, saying this:
It was the pandemic and we had to be creative. We’ve been watching movies since we were kids and got into all of these things. One day Elijah walked into the office and I felt like 20 minutes had gone by, but maybe it was an hour, he had this whole concept. And then, at the same time, the parents in our neighborhood asked me to give their children art lessons. In doing so, the youngest, Dusty [Peak], he just said things where I was like, ‘How do you know?’ It is so connected and it can build worlds so easily. Elijah has known Dusty for years and I said to myself, “We need to start paying more attention to what this guy is saying.
After being stimulated by the concept of Allan-Blitz and Dusty Peak, which she stars alongside Brie Larson in the launch of Disney +, collaborators and partners in real life have worked with her to build the fantasy world that they will be shooting together until late. the same LED digital sets the Mandalorian app . Larson then shared the process behind it to remember With these words:
She came around and we asked her questions and started saying there would be even more gold, if we had the chance to expand this into a feature. I mean, the number of things you talked about is a very detailed world. In this world, imagination happens a lot, beyond seven minutes. And we just spent hours talking about it and it’s so cute. It is so real and smooth and not shy in any way. And then we took some of these things that were, I don’t know, love unicorns that I never would have thought of a unicorn done in the moonlight. As if it were wow. And then Elijah went through all of the audio, tore up some fragments, and then worked with an artist to build it.
The result is an engaging and emotional experience about meeting one’s own fantasies in a palpable space. Through the app, viewers get an extra experience that allows them to immerse themselves for a moment in the ideas of the short film and see beyond the TV screen.
After the AR experience, after Larson’s character met his inner child, the end gives him a moment of emotion to overcome. Here’s what it means for Larson:
In fact, it’s more gratitude than anything else because I don’t know if you’ve ever lost something or an idea, in this case, but receiving it as a gift is very special indeed. You might think of it as a loss of yourself coming back and saying, “Oh, that’s who I am.” Oh thank God. I’m back to me. There is something quite powerful in there. And the golden light can be what you want and the phone can be what you want and how we distract ourselves from it all. So the more you look [Remembering], the more you think about it, the more you can project anything. But for me, yes, it was definitely gratitude. And think like, ‘Oh, thanks for reminding me. I can’t believe I forgot, but it’s true.
And although Larson and Allan-Blitz are clear that the technology of to remember it wouldn’t work for all kinds of stories, it has already tricked them into thinking of other ways to implement this technology or continue delving into the world they created. As Larson shared:
In the end, for us, it is as if we wanted to continue creating. It’s just that it’s like we can finally visually share what we’ve talked about. And now it’s like, okay, how do we expand it? Are you turning this story into a feature film? Does it extend into a series? Is there another movie that could use this technology, plus all the other things we’re talking about that the future might hold? How can we progress? And this is just for us an example of what we can do.
Disney + could implement more AR moments as in to remember to its content? The creators of the short certainly have ideas for expanding it, as Larson said. Perhaps it is thanks to a version where viewers can interact more with the space and, for example, reach out and have a bird perched on their fingers. Time will tell.
to remember is one of many new additions to Disney + in its annual Disney + Day, which too results in a significant drop in price for a limited period of time as well as new versions such as live Pinocchio movie and the streaming debut of Thor: love and thunder.
