Elton John will headline the Glastonbury Festival next June for a “last” concert in the UK before completing his farewell tour, the organization of the famous British music event announced Friday.
It is the first time the famed pop star, 75, has participated, Emily Eavis, organizer and daughter of the founder of the festival, which normally takes place every year in south-west England, said on Twitter.
“We are incredibly pleased to announce that the one and only Elton John will headline the Pyramid Stage on Sunday night (June 25) at Glastonbury 2023, for what will be his last UK concert,” the festival tweeted.
Farewell tour until 2023
Elton John began his Farewell Yellow Brick Road farewell tour around the world in September 2018 before being forced to end it due to the COVID-19 pandemic. During his recovery, the British artist notably performed in Paris in June 2022.
On November 20, Elton John wrapped up his US concert series with a final show at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles, attended by Prince Harry and his wife Meghan, among others.
After his visit to Glastonbury, the British megastar with countless hits will end his farewell tour that will once again pass through Paris for four dates, from June 21 to 28, 2023.
