Elizabeth II died without breaking Louis XIV’s longevity record and Twitter has fun

Dead at the age of 96, Queen Elizabeth II reigned for 70 years and seven months, two years less than the Sun King. A detail that amused many Internet users on social networks.

Despite the death this Thursday of Elizabeth II at the age of 96, it is another unexpected sovereign who stands as a star on Twitter: Louis XIV. Because the Sun King’s longevity record has not been broken: he remains the monarch with the longest reign in history, from his four years in 1643 until his death in 1715, that is, 72 years, 3 months and 18 days. Isabel II reigned “only” 70 years, 7 months and 2 days. Therefore, the record remains on this side of the Channel.

“Tonight France won,” wrote a user on Twitter whose message went viral in a few hours.

On Twitter, Internet users have posted or shared various ironic messages wishing to highlight this (symbolic) French record.

On the other hand, Queen Elizabeth II holds another record: at 96, she was the world’s oldest acting monarch.
