Former host Henri Sannier confesses about his autoimmune disease on the Telethon

The former journalist and presenter, who left television five years ago, spoke about his fight against the disease on the set of Téléthon.

A television face, which had been eclipsed for years, reappeared on the screen this weekend. The former journalist for France Télévisions, Henri Sannier, took to the stage of the Telethon, on France 2, to reveal his own fight against the disease.

“I learn it with more than 70 years. I have never been sick in my life and I was caught by an autoimmune disease, ”the 75-year-old former journalist told Sophie Davant’s microphone, her shoulders wrapped around her arm. by Michel Drucker. “And there, bing, we found ourselves lying down, we no longer walked for a year and a half or two years.”

“I’m only waiting for one thing, to get back on my bike!”

After presenting the 8:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. newscasts on Antenne 2 in the 1980s and 1990s, Henri Sannier emigrated to France 3. Passionate about sport, he commented on the Tour de France on several occasions and took control of the ‘ issue All the sports at France 3. A position he held for 20 years, from 1997 to 2017. He then gave way to Thomas Thouroude and retired at the age of 70.

It was during this period that his illness broke out. But his treatment allowed him to drastically improve his quality of life as he relied on the Telethon set, standing on his two legs:

“I was able to recover, because you have to be strong in the head, and a lot of people helped me (…) I tried to understand what I had, and they told me: ‘This disease, you have your antibodies that come together against you, they are in the plasma but they attack you.'”

And to conclude: “So I come to Paris every month to have plasmapheresis (a technique that separates plasma and blood, editor’s note), with extraordinary and competent people, and I thank them from the bottom of my heart. Now I’m walking again and I’m only waiting for one thing, to be able to ride a bike again!” The Telethon ended this Sunday early in the day, after having raised more than 78 million euros in contributions.
