HBO’s The Last Of Us trailer shows off key gameplay moments, showcases scary moments, and surprisingly features some 80s music

Waiting for HBO The Last of Us It’s been tough, but the show is finally coming in January. The first Lou The trailer was incredibly impressive, right down to the thrilling and chilling sounds of the hideous Clickers. Well, the full trailer is here and it features even more terrifying fungal creatures. The footage also shows some of the biggest events of 2013 from the acclaimed video game. And surprisingly, many of those moments are set to an 80s hit and it works perfectly.

The new trailer of The Last of Us plunges headlong into the relationship between the two main protagonists of the series, Joel (Pedro Pascal) and Ellie (Bella Ramsey). Fans of the original game know they were in an awkward relationship before forming a father-daughter dynamic. It’s all perfectly illustrated through various gameplay footage, including the moment Ellie explains to Joel and Tess (Anna Torv) why she’s such a valuable resource for fireflies. There are also glimpses of the two survivors teaming up with brothers Henry and Sam, and a recreation of the prologue to the OG game, depicting the beginning of the mushroom outbreak, can also be seen. Even the photo showing Ellie in front of a cleaver seems to allude to her encounter with cannibalistic chef David. Of course, the manufacturers leave no stone unturned.

This, of course, means even more Clickers, which are much more important here than they were in the first trailer. The creatures look and sound absolutely perfect, and I’m amazed at the precision of the designs. This last shot, which appeared to show a Bloater, was particularly impressive. There are many elements to fear in this universe, but these monsters definitely evoke the most fear for viewers.

While the footage is stunning, I think I’m most impressed that it’s all set to A-ha’s “Take on Me.” I would never have connected 80s bop with The Last of Us frankly, but here the music works very well. It’s an eerie iteration of the track, similar to the altered tunes Jordan Peele features in trailers for his films. I hope this trend continues in horror marketing.

This show is about to add new elements to the Playstation gaming tradition. However, co-showrunner Craig Mazin has already confirmed that the series “won’t undo” anything fans experienced there. It’s shaping up to be a gripping production, and I can’t wait to see what Pedro Pascal, Bella Ramsey and the rest of the team will do. Lou plaster bring to the table.

The Last of Us will premiere on HBO on January 15 as part of the 2023 TV schedule and will also be streamed with an HBO Max subscription.
