Daniel Radcliffe talks about “Giant Egg” in Al Yankovic’s weird biopic, reveals it could even get weirder than the Swiss Army man

While Daniel Radcliffe will always be better known for directing the film Harry Potter film, following the conclusion of The Boy Who Lived screenplay (unless a film adaptation of the cursed child takes off), the actor has also made a name for himself by taking on unusual roles. This includes the time he played a corpse in 2016. Swiss army manand in a few months we will see him as the protagonist Bizarre: the story of Al Yankovic as the title musician. Radcliffe revealed that this “biopic” would involve a “giant egg”, even going so far as to say that it might be stranger than what happened in Swiss army man.

Just to put everyone on the same page Bizarre: the story of Al Yankovic covering the rise of Weird Al, as well as the satirical songs that the man himself composes, this film essentially serves as a satire on biographies. Between the differences between the film and what actually happened is a scene showing Daniel Radcliffe’s Yankovic hatching from a giant egg during a psychedelic drug trip, and the actor used this scene to compare the strangeness of this 2022 film with Swiss army man‘s, telling the New York Times:

Maybe only Paul Dano riding me like a jet ski in Swiss Army Man comes close to the weirdest thing I’ve ever done.

for those who have not seen Swiss army man and we’re surprised by the above statement, the black comedy saw Paul Dano play Hank Thompson, an abandoned man on an island who stumbles upon the corpse of Daniel Radcliffe’s character. Not only does Hank start using it ridiculously, but the body eventually speaks up and takes the name of Manny. Oh yeah, and Manny farted a lot. So yeah, it’s hard to imagine Radcliffe starring in anything weirder than Swiss army manbut in his head Bizarre: the story of Al Yankovic, for the most part, comes after or beats this A24 movie, outside of the jet ski scene. Having that moment of hatching definitely gives credit to that point of view.

Going the path of the satirical biopic instead of offering a direct look at how Weird Al became a great moment will no doubt help Bizarre: the story of Al Yankovic stand out and Daniel Radcliffe liked that the script allowed things to get particularly wild, saying:

There was definitely a freedom in the version of Al that is in the script. And he’s so crazy.

Daniel Radcliffe then turned to the real Weird Al Yankovic, who was in the same interview, and joked that he hadn’t killed “many, many people”, to which the singer replied, “Not much. Very little.” In addition to providing his sung voice in the film, Weird Al also appears as a record executive, as seen in the trailer for Bizarre: the story of Al Yankovic. The cast also includes Rain Wilson, Evan Rachel Wood, Toby Huss, Julianne Nicholson, Quinta Brunson and Will Forte, while behind the scenes Eric Appel directed and co-wrote the script with Weird Al.

Filmed for just 18 days, audiences will be able to see how weird things get. Bizarre: the story of Al Yankovic when it premieres on The Roku Channel on November 4th. Meanwhile, you can stream Daniel Radcliffe’s more cinematic appearance The lost city with a subscription to Paramount +.
