Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse producer confirms key point details

Some of Spider-Man’s villains have had multiple opportunities to shine in films, including the Green Goblin, Doctor Octopus, Venom, and Electro, while others have yet to make it to the big screen. Next summer, however, The Spot will no longer fall into the latter category, as Jason Schwartzman voices the portal-summoning antagonist in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. Six months until this film’s premiere arrives in 2023, Through the Spider-Verse Producer Kemp Power has confirmed a key detail about The Spot: we’ll be seeing it more than once.

Given that Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse released less than a year later Through the Spider-Verse, it was obvious that these two films would be closely related. Indeed, Kemp Powers told Full Movie that The Spot will serve as the main villain of both films, promoting the villain with these words:

The Spot is an interesting villain because he looks like a joke, but when you really look at his powers, there’s incredible potential. His ability to open portals across dimensions prepares him perfectly for the Spider-Verse. He’s the villain of the next two movies…and let’s just say Spot and Miles are connected in surprising ways.

We learned in June that The Spot was included in the mix for Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, with his film debut nearly 40 years after his first comic book appearance. However, while the portals created by the original Marvel Comics Spot only allow him to travel to another dimension called Spotworld, Jason Schwartzman’s Spot has the ability to travel to the other realities these various Spider-Heroes inhabit. So with the multiverse taking so much into this film series, it only makes sense that The Spot would cause trouble in two films instead of being wiped out of the picture at the end of Through the Spider-Verse.

Though it’s been abundantly clear that The Spot will be strong in the next two spider worms movie, the exact plans the villain will hatch are unclear. Interestingly, however, Kemp Powers noted that he and Shameik Moore’s Miles Morales are “incredibly connected.” In the comics, Spot was originally Dr. Jonathan Ohnn, a scientist who worked for Wilson Fisk, also known as the Kingpin. He and Miles could share some kind of connection beyond Miles only against the Kingpin in In the Spider-Verse. On the other hand, there have been many times in superhero movies where someone else is given a villain identity. Perhaps this Spot is related to another version of Miles. Here’s a crazy thought: what if Spot this is Another version of Miles?

Some if not most of these mysteries will be solved when Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse will be released in theaters on June 2, 2023, followed by Beyond the Spider-Verse on March 29, 2024. Other notable players in the first sequel include Hailee Steinfeld and Jake Johnson, respectively, as Gwen Stacy and Peter B. Parker, as well as Issa Rae as pregnant Jessica Drew and Daniel Kaluuya as Hobie. known as Spider-Punk.
