When Disney bought Lucasfilm, it wasn’t exactly a surprise to hear that we’d be getting new Star Wars movies and new Indiana Jones movies, but one property no one necessarily expected to review was Willow. George Lucas’ magical fantasy story certainly had fans, but it never made it past film, so it didn’t have the franchise power of those other names. Yet here we are with a Willow sequel series on Disney+ and even Val Kilmer can’t believe it’s happening.
On the eve of the first episode of Willow In the fall of the series, writer Jon Kasdan shared a photo of himself with Warwick Davis from the set of Alone: A Star Wars Story, a film that Kasdan co-wrote and Davis appeared in several cameo roles. There was the idea of the new Willow The series was really born. Kasdan said the idea of making a sequel series wasn’t about dreaming big, in fact, it was about dreaming “crazy.” Then Val Kilmer he retweeted the image and agreed that everyone involved was pretty pissed.

Kilmer calls Kasdan and Davis “crazy,” a nice reference to his own Willow Madmartigan character. This is certainly an appropriate answer. Evan Kasdan doesn’t seem to believe the show actually happened. I guess it’s another case where you believe in yourself and take a risk, because you never know what can really happen.
For what it’s worth Willow The sequel actually makes more sense than many other legacy projects. This film was about a little girl who was supposed to grow up and do great things, and while the attempt to stop her as a child failed, fans will still want to see what happens when she actually grows up.
As far as we know, Kilmer himself does not appear on the show, the actor has been dealing with the aftermath of throat surgery and is therefore basically retired. Kilmer appeared in another major sequel, Top Gun: nonconformistbut it seems unlikely that such a Willow the cameo would have worked with the story. The character’s absence is addressed head-on, and two of the new series’ main characters are his children.
the theme of the a Willow The sequel was something that would be mentioned time and time again. There were definitely people who would have liked to see something like this, but there would definitely be questions about whether there was enough audience to make it worth it.
I had the opportunity to speak with Warwick Davis after the production of Alone: A Star Wars Story and mentioned at the time that Willow had entered the conversation. Sure, I’m sure many ideas crop up at times like this, but they don’t always happen.
We hope Val Kilmer is one of the Willow fans who enjoyed watching the new series.
