The next stars of humor may be discovered thanks to a three-minute pill. Video-sharing app TikTok launched a competition Thursday, the #TikTokComedyClub, with the stated goal of “discovering future stand-up talent.” Any user of the platform can participate; the best five will perform on the stage of La Cigale, in Paris, on February 8th.
The contest is open until January 8. Those who want to enter the competition will need to post a comedy video (it can be a parody, stage performance, or just comedy content in front of the camera) with the hashtag #TikTokComedyClub and fill out an online form. The contest is led by comedian Redouane Bougheraba, who will perform with the four finalists and the winner during the show at La Cigale. The evening will be open to the public and will be broadcast live on TikTok.
The first videos appear
Several videos marked with the famous hashtag have been published for two days on the platform, and the content is varied. Some film themselves at home, while others, who obviously already have stand-up experience, post excerpts from stage performances.
Since its inception, social media has often allowed talent from all walks of life to come out of the anonymity. In the field of humor, one of the most recent examples is that of Inès Reg: after the notorious stir of one of her videos posted on Instagram in 2019, she established herself as one of the faces of the young French comedy scene.
