This past Wednesday marked the end of an era for Superman in movies. Although Henry Cavill reprized the Man of Steel in black adamScrolling through the mid-credits scene, then teasing that there was more to come from his version of the character, the actor announced earlier this week that his time as Superman was officially over. That same night, James Gunn, the new co-director. of DC Studios, has revealed that he is writing a reboot of Superman and, judging by what little the director has shared so far, it seems that his take on the Kryptonian superhero is taking inspiration from Matt Reeves. the Batman.
Time the Batman Once envisioned as a platform for Ben Affleck’s take on the dark vigilante, once Affleck stepped away from the project and Matt Reeves came aboard to write and direct, it morphed into a reboot that, following Robert Pattinson from young Batman, Era is not an origin story. Instead, it showed the hero dressed and groomed in his second year fighting crime in Gotham City and having already established a relationship with Jeffrey Wright’s James Gordon. James Gunn appears to be doing the same with his Superman reboot, because aside from saying it won’t even be an origin story, he tweeted the following to someone who had said that “meeting people for the first time is an origin story”:
It’s not the first time he’s met the main characters either. She’s just younger.
James Gunn didn’t name any of these specific “major characters,” but we can infer that in this Superman reboot, Lois Lane, Jimmy Olsen, and Perry White are already a part of Clark Kent’s life, unlike viewers. those who are shown how he met them, as in Superman: The Movie Yes Man of Steel. Also, he will talk about a Superman who already has experience protecting innocent people, but who is far from a veteran superhero. Looks a lot like the BatmanIt is not so?
Avoiding an origin story is a smart move on James Gunn’s part, as the general public is already familiar enough with Kal-El being thrown from an exploding Krypton and adopted by Jonathan and Martha Kent on Earth, just as they’ve seen enough. Bruce Wayne’s parents are killed in Crime Alley and Peter Parker is bitten by a radioactive/GMO spider. That said, perhaps this Superman reboot could continue as well. the BatmanClark’s footage showing Clark facing his first augmented threat. With Robert Pattinson’s Bruce Wayne going head-to-head with Paul Dano’s Riddler, perhaps this new Superman will have to face someone like Lex Luthor, Brainiac or Parasite – someone who has more to offer than the standard villain.
It’s hard to say when we’ll start hearing concrete details about James Gunn’s Superman reboot, but if you want to see previous Superman films, or even the Batmanyou’ll need an HBO Max subscription. Our next DC movie guide also shows what this corner of the superhero movie market has in store for the year ahead and beyond.
