It’s ironic that his birth mother is coming forward because she hasn’t been in his life since 2015 and Angela Johnson has relinquished her parental rights. Todd Chrisley continued his discussion and said:
Angela Johnson literally gave up her rights to her son. She did it in front of a judge. The judge explained to him: “Do you understand what you are doing? Do you understand that you are giving up your child’s rights? And then he explained that he had X days to go back and undo everything.
It would appear that Johnson did not return to the courtroom for these reasons, but she clarified during cross-examination by the judge that she had not been threatened or coerced into abandoning Chloe and that she had not paid anything in compensation.
The reality star doubled down on the custody situation, explaining why they aimed to become Chloe’s guardian in the first place after a joint custody phase. According to Todd Chrisley:
But just to be very, very clear: Angela Johnson has no rights to Chloe. Her rights have been cancelled. It was legally adopted. And I read some of the comments that said, “Honey, you waited ten years too late. It’s correct. . . . We’re trying to do the right thing with Angela. We provided him with housing so she could get back on her feet at a time when he was homeless. I didn’t want to have to tell Chloe when she was 18 that I allowed her mother to be homeless. She didn’t owe it to her mother. She didn’t owe this to go out and give her lodgings.
Chrisley said the stipulations for the apartment were such that Johnson only needed to meet the monthly payments and the apartment would become Chloe’s property on her 18th birthday. But presumably, she made no such payments. Additionally, Chrisley said Johnson also received a Toyota Prius and funding for nursing school tuition, but allegedly made no effort to complete his education and was also unreliable when it came to driving to pick up Chloe. when Johnson was time to take her.
And when it comes to having receipts to show as proof, Chrisley spoke directly to Johnson via the podcast, telling her she knew she was listening.

Right now, the Chrisleys should still be appeal their prison sentences though it’s impossible to know how things will play out between now and when Todd and Julie are supposed to be incarcerated.
