Sci-fi blockbuster Avatar: The Path of WaterThe highly anticipated sequel to the 2009 film soared through the box office in its opening weekend in North American theaters, according to preliminary figures Sunday from trade firm Exhibitor Relations.
With revenues of 134 million dollars between Friday and Sunday, the film by director James Cameron is, however, slightly below the forecasts of specialists.
Worldwide, the film also earned an additional $300 million. And with more than $434.5 million, avatar 2 achieves one of the best box office entries since the Covid-19 pandemic.
“Black Panther” dethroned
Again located on the planet Pandora, the path of water tells a story set more than a decade after the events of the first film.
US Marine Jake Sully (played by Sam Worthington), has transitioned into the body of a Na’vi, the tall, blue-skinned people of Pandora, and works with them to protect their habitat from a fatal threat.
James Cameron’s film dethrones Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, which lost its top spot at the US box office after six weeks of exploitation. Marvel’s Afro-futuristic film has grossed nearly $419 million at the North American box office and $367 million worldwide.
