A few moments of rejoicing during the period of mourning after the death of Elizabeth II. This Saturday, shortly after the proclamation of Charles III as the new king of England, the soldiers and the crowd gathered in front of the Saint-James palace cheered the new sovereign with shouts of “hip hip, hurrah!”
If he automatically became king after the death of his mother on Thursday at the age of 96, the proclamation only took place this Saturday morning during a solemn and meticulous ceremony, inside this London palace, not far from Buckingham.

The Accession Council, made up of members of the royal family, Prime Minister Liz Truss and Ministers of State, among others, met there at 11:00. They signed the official proclamation document. Carlos III then appeared before them, accompanied by his wife Camila and his eldest son Guillermo. He gave a five-minute speech before adding his own signature.
The proclamation was recited an hour later by David White, King of Arms of the Order of the Garter, on the palace balcony. It was after this reading that the cheers rang out.
