The past year has been a great one for fans of Charlie Cox’s Daredevil. First, last December, three years after Daredevil season 3 aired on Netflix and was immediately canceled by the streaming service, Cox made his long-awaited comeback as Matthew Murdock in Spider-Man: There’s No Going Home. Then last summer, She-Hulk: Lawyer this gave Cox the chance to reprise his role as Matt and officially suit up as Daredevil, albeit in a new costume. Plus, we learned Cox will be back for both of them Echo Yes Daredevil: Born Again over the next few years, and now the actor has revealed how long the final show will be and has shared his thoughts on the main episode order.
After the entries of a Reckless revival series being pieced together, it was confirmed at San Diego Comic-Con that Daredevil: Born Again was arriving as part of the Phase 5 lineup. While Marvel shows available exclusively to Disney+ subscribers typically get six or nine episodes per season (although Loki Yes And if… ? are so far the only ones to have scored sophomore seasons), born again it had 18 episodes for just its first season. Therefore, Charlie Cox told NME that he will spend most of 2023 playing Marvel’s Man Without Fear, saying:
They told me: “We will shoot in 2023”. I said, ‘Great, when?’ They said, “All 2023.” I start shooting in February and finish in December.
With 18 episodes on the way, it makes sense that Charlie Cox would stay busy next year with his Daredevil duties, because you just can’t cut through that much work quickly. Before Marvel Studios included him, Cox played Matt Murdock in all 39 episodes of the original. Reckless series, plus the eight-episode miniseries the defenders. I’m intrigued as to why they chose to do 18. I guess there will be an element of that reminiscent of old school procedural show. Not necessarily the case of the week, but something where we delve into attorney Matt Murdock and see what his life is like. If it’s done right and really gets its hands dirty in this world… I think there’s something pretty cool about that, to spend a lot of time in the day-to-day life of a superhero and really win the times that he fits.
with the original Reckless With a series boasting 13 episodes a season, there’s no shortage of opportunity to explore Matt Murdock’s legal profession and personal life, but if Charlie Cox is right, Daredevil: Born Again could put more emphasis on this during the superhero action.
