Community’s Dan Harmon knows fans love episodes of Paintball and Dungeons & Dragons, but he has good reason to steer clear of the Peacock movie.

Originally, Abed Nadir exclaimed how his NBC length prediction was wrong. Layer would last, “six seasons and a movie” was the slogan Community fans have been expressing their hopes for the Greendale Community College saga for years. The show ran for six seasons thanks to the last run of episodes airing on the now-defunct Yahoo! Screen, and earlier this year it was announced that a Community The movie is finally on its way and will be released exclusively to Peacock subscribers. However, Community Creator Dan Harmon shared his good reason why this upcoming film will stay away from paintball and Dungons & Dragons.

These two games were between Communitythe most popular recurring concepts, so fans won’t be blamed for thinking that the Community the film could show a paintball match and/or a game of Dungeons and Dragons, even if they weren’t the focus of the story. But visiting the latest episode of Six seasons and a podcast (opens in a new tab)Dan Harmon explained why he decided to remove these games from history, starting with the following explanation of paintball:

It’s much easier for me to dismiss things than to tell you what we’re looking for. For example, say, “Do we really think it would be a good idea for this to be a paintball episode? That’s one of the first things to rule out because it’s the first thing that comes to mind, and that’s a problem with the concept of community film. We’ve done a lot of episodes where you’re happily locked into a construct that’s not traditional sitcom storytelling, but rather through the lens of David Fincher or Martin Scorsese. There were a lot of special episodes that were like homages to the genre. Paintball was one of them. We tried to make a bunch of extra paintballs, and they were all perfectly wonderful things to do, but would anything ever capture the joy of the original paintball episode?

Five paintball-focused episodes were produced during production Community‘s, the first being Season 1’s ‘Modern Warfare’. Every time a paintball game blew up on campus, leaving quite a mess and allowing the series to explore certain genres/make their own contributions to popular properties that otherwise would. not possible, like westerns and Star Wars. In Dan Harmon’s eyes, the paintball episodes, especially the first one, were so well done that he didn’t need to set foot on that ground again for the first time. Community movie.

Perhaps most importantly, Dan Harmon also spoke out about the fact that there have been more school shootings since then CommunityThe paintball episodes on the air make it especially unwise to revisit this concept, which led him to explain why Dungeons & Dragons won’t be used either:

You run around with guns in a school, which was never a good idea on TV, even back then. How can we do this acceptably? You sit down to write the film and you’re like, “So would we do this right?” Because it’s so emblematic of what made our show special and the wins we achieved, the things we brought to the show. Or we played Dungeons & Dragons for 90 minutes. I have to rule that out, maybe a better writer wouldn’t.

Dan Harmon also shared that the Community The film would not see Greendale shut down after season 6, nor would the main characters get back together via a college reunion. So while Harmon still wants to keep the exact plot details a secret, at least fans now know a thing or two about what not to expect from this streaming feature. Harmon co-wrote the Community film with Andrew Guest, and Joel McHale, Gillian Jacobs, Danny Audi, Alison Brie, Jim Rash and Ken Jeong are officially on board to reprise their roles. Harmon also said in October that Donald Glover would likely return as Troy Barnes, but there was still no official deal for that to happen.

24 News Bulletin will continue to provide updates on how the Community the film arrives, even as the composer Ludwig Göransson ends up returning to his musical duties. Until then, he goes back CommunityAll six seasons of Netflix with your Netflix or Hulu membership.
