There are a number of great Marvel movies on the horizon, and one of them is Captain America: New World Order. The next film was announced at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con as part of Marvel’s Phase 5 lineup. Not much is known about the film right now, but new details have just arrived. And fans will be happy to hear that the Anthony Mackie-directed film will see the return of none other than Tim Blake Nelson’s Samuel Sterns, aka The Leader!
That’s right, you read that right. News of Tim Blake Nelson’s return came during Marvel Studios’ presentation at Disney’s D23 Expo. Exact details on The Leader’s role have not been revealed, although it can be assumed that he will act as the antagonist of Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson. To say Nelson’s casting is a surprise would be an understatement, considering he didn’t appear from the aforementioned MCU movie (released in 2008).
Samuel Sterns was introduced as a colleague of Bruce Banner, who tried to help him find a cure for his Hulk affliction through digital correspondence. The two would eventually meet in person, with the help of Betty Ross, though the US military charged after Banner was apparently “healed.” After Sterns helped Emil Blonsky, aka The Abomination, improve his mutation, the scientist’s forehead was torn apart and he was exposed to a vial of gamma-irradiated blood. Soon after, his head began to throb, which was a clue to his eventual transformation into a sentient telepath.
It probably shouldn’t be too surprising that Marvel has found a way to bring The Leader back, especially since he’s not the only one. Helmet alum to make a triumphant return after a long absence. Tim Roth’s Emil Blonsky recently reappeared on Disney + She-Hulk: lawyer – and had made a brief appearance last year Shang-Chi and the legend of the ten rings Before.
The leader isn’t the only familiar face to return for the new show, as it has also been confirmed The hawk and the winter soldierDanny Ramirez will return as Joaquin Torres of the MCU, who may or may not be well on his way to becoming the new Falcon. Carl Lumbly’s Isaiah Bradley also reappears, one of the Captain America fans they met on the Disney + show. There is also a new face entering the fray in the form of Shira Haas, who will play the role of Saber.
It will be exciting to see what hood 4 has the long-awaited character of Tim Blake Nelson in store. A powerful character like him could definitely turn things around for Sentinel of Liberty. Also, for example, I’m more than ready to see Nelson munching on landscapes in the process.
Captain America: New World Order will be released in theaters on May 3, 2024, and in the meantime, you can stream the old MCU fare with a Disney + subscription.
