James Wan challenges horror fans who complain M3GAN isn’t R-rated

As for diehard horror fans, many like their movies to be gorefests in the vein of the surprising success of this year, scary 2 . But movies soaked in blood and guts inevitably require an R rating, so whenever the next horror movie M3GAN would be PG-13, has caused quite a stir among some horror fans. Many took to social media to express their dissatisfaction with the MPAA rating. However, the film’s producers, James Wan and Jason Blum, dismiss the ratings complaints.

The producer duo spoke with the Hollywood reporter about everything from the possible merger of their companies to AI-powered cinema and the possibility of a sequel to the Blumhouse blockbuster, Invisible Man. However, the conversation quickly turned to the online “fly” about it M3GAN PG-13 rating. Wan, a well-respected genre director, said the rating should be fine for the film, and a PG-13 is appropriate for the AI-Killer doll film. Wan also said he doesn’t have to compromise on scares to make a more accessible horror film. Wan told THR:

Listen, I’ve done PG-13 movies and I’ve done R-rated movies. So I think it’s about what’s right about the movie, and even though M3GAN is a scary movie, teenagers love it. They’ll love it and I think it will mean a lot to them.

James Wan is no stranger to making beautifully scary PG-13 movies. One of his biggest hits is the awful and well received by critics Insidious . The 2010 film is rated PG-13 and doesn’t stop at scares. Fans loved the movie so much that it spawned an entire series. The fifth in the franchise, Insidious: Fear of the darkis on the way and was directed by franchise star Patrick Wilson.

Jason Blum went further in favor of the PG-13 rating, stating that some of the best horror movies they are not classified R. Blum says:

Some of the scariest movies of all time are PG-13, so I don’t get much stomach ache. Go see the movie and tell me about it later. (Laugh.)

Jason Blum is right. There have been some great horror films made in recent years that have been rated PG-13. A quiet placeThe two happy day of the dead movie, and the Insidious franchises are just a few recent examples that come to mind.

the first reactions a M3GAN seem to support the words of the powerful producer duos on the coast. Many who have been lucky enough to see the first screenings of the movie Killer Doll have been relatively positive. Apparently Universal was so happy with the outcome of the film that Follow-up talks are already underway before the movie hits theaters.

I love that filmmakers are interested in making a great horror movie that teenagers can enjoy. I am the father of a pre-teen and M3GAN it’s the first horror film he’s interested in seeing. Since when the wild trailer popped up online talking about seeing it in the theater, so maybe Wan and Blum know what they’re doing.

Whether a PG-13 rating will get in the way of audience enjoyment M3GAN remains to be seen. Based on the buzz surrounding the new movie preview , I think we may be looking at a new horror villain icon. No R rating required.
