Spoilers ahead for the winter premiere of FBI Season 5, titled “Second Life”.
FBI officially returned to CBS on the 2023 premiere TV schedule, and the first case of the new year was a blast at the time for Isabella. A recent abduction landed her on the first case she’s worked on… which she and her ex partner thought jake reed it had closed a long time ago. She had to face the reality from the start that she and Jake put the wrong man behind bars, but in the end she reminded me again that he was the right person to have the highest rank of the three. FBI Shows
Isobel’s first case with the Department shocked her enough that she kept in touch with the mother of the girl they believed had been killed, but didn’t know one important thing: the man they accused of kidnapping and killing young Annabelle. The murder had many holes in her confession and DNA proved that Annabelle wasn’t dead after all. During the hour of “Second Life,” Isobel did everything she could to close the case for good this time around, and three specific things determined that she more than deserved her spot as special agent in charge.
Isobel has always been a stand up agent
After watching the video of Jake’s interrogation years ago with the man they allegedly falsely accused, Isobel realizes some painful things. She was in FBI training when the arrest and questioning occurred earlier in the day, and Jake pushed the visibly shaky man too far into making a shaky confession. The implication was that the false confession would never have taken place had Isobel been present to conduct the questioning.
Bien sûr, elle était dans une relation amoureuse avec Jake à l’époque, mais il n’y a aucune raison de croire qu’elle aurait laissé cela compromettre la façon dont elle s’est conduite dans la poursuite d’un dossier pour le Office. In fact, she even refused to go out for a drink with Jake at the end of the episode. FBI revealed his origin as an agent last season; now fans know the kind of agent he’s always been and have cast him as SAC.
isobel keeps her head in the game
This matter was personal to Isobel from the very beginning of her career with the Department and it clearly shook her when she discovered they locked up the wrong person. That said, she kept her head in the game in a way that other characters do FBI I could not. Earlier this season, OA he was understandably traumatized by a crisis to the point where he missed things at work. In season 4, maggie being distracted by her situation with her sister almost had disastrous results.
For his part, Jubal Have you struggled to maintain focus when the personal stakes are high, like when fight she was shot last season and when her son mingled with the wrong crowd in what would have been the Season 4 finale. Isobel wasn’t the most objective and detached in ‘Second Life,’ but she certainly didn’t let it go, let his personal feelings get in the way of anything!
isobel saved the day on the court
Isobel doesn’t pursue bad guys in the field as much as the other characters, but she joined them in an effort to find Annabelle, and the young woman could have been doomed if SAC hadn’t taken bold action. After an explosion (caused by the kidnapper) in the cabin Annabelle was in, the rest of the search party all but gave up the cause, but Isobel ran in to perform the rescue anyway. She has been at the center of intense episodes in the past, but it was nice to see her back on the pitch.
