Huge spoilers for season 2, episode 2 of Mayor of Kingtown first.
When the second episode of Mayor of Kingtown With Season 2 over, it was clear power moves had been made and some shocking moments occurred that I suspect will 100% impact the rest of the season. One of those moments was when Iris, played by Emma Laird, decided to leave police custody and go back to the evil crime boss, which is why she got into a bad situation in the first place. I know my jaw was on the floor when she walked into the church to meet Milo, Aidan Gillen’s character and with series co-creator Hugh Dillon going bankrupt, this move is truly a “Taylor Sheridan moment.”
In short, throughout the second episode of Mayor of Kingtown Jeremy Renner’s character Mike tries to help Iris find a safe place to stay. He ends up taking her to her mother’s, which is a pretty safe place to hide. However, due to Iris’ trauma from the previous season, he seems to trust no one, not even Mike, who he cares deeply about. So instead of staying with his mother, he ends up going back to Milo, his old boss. Iris enters the church where the notorious criminal is hiding and says: “I have nowhere to go. I don’t have a home. The scene ends with Milo saying, “You’re home now.”
To put it lightly, I was taken aback by this moment, as was Hugh Dillon, who dissected the scene and his co-creator Taylor Sheridan’s thought process behind Gossipify, saying:
It’s Taylor Sheridan time. It was a script, where we all knew where we were going, he and I talked about what we were going to do this season. And then he was on the page, because what happens is he goes in there, and I wrote with him, and then I watched him sit down and go into this trance. It is in the world in everything. And so what I learned more than anything was to trust him. Because I’m like a fan at first. I’m like, ‘oh no!’ And what happens!’ And then when he collapses, because he sees, he’s like a chess master, he sees 10 steps ahead. And I’m a good chess player. So I see maybe six.
Long Taylor Sheridan movies and shows viewers have gotten used to her complex and shocking choices, like the one that just happened kingtown. massive reveal inside yellow stone to carry out projects they have it involves actors like Nicole Kidman and Harrison Ford (among many others), the bar for quality entertainment from Sheridan is high, and this moment proves it still delivers.
said Emma Laird collider who dropped everything to play Iris because she wanted to work with the writer-creator. So with the shocking decisions she made in Episode 2 of the Jeremy Renner-led show, it’s clear that her decision to join kingtown it paid off, and Sheridan proved once again that he can create stories that none of us see coming.
Dillon went on to discuss this groundbreaking decision Iris made and Sheridan’s writing, explaining:
And so, it’s so unpredictable, and even for you, you know, asking that question, it’s just crazy to watch. But deep down, he knows this character, and he knows this broken personality, and this darkness, and this vulnerability, and that you make bad decisions. And that’s the beauty of his writing. It’s like I have to go there, and it’s embarrassing. And that’s why it’s so real.
The crew of this show really aren’t afraid to “go for it” and this moment proved it once again. like him TV show 2023 continues and Mayor of Kingstown continues to release new episodes, It will be interesting to see what happens to Iris next, now that Iris is back with the show’s big bad.
