Disney has produced a number of iconic and kid-friendly TV shows over the years. Those who grew up in the 90s or early 2000s (like me) probably have fond memories watching The famous Jett Jackson, lizzie mcguire, it’s so crow and then. Of course, you can’t talk about it without mentioning it Stephen too Yup boy meets world (which aired on ABC but was heavily syndicated on Disney Channel). Both remain hugely popular today, and audiences would no doubt want to see more of both properties. How about an animated reboot for the two of you? Well, series alumni Christy Carlson Romano and Will Friedle have feelings about the concept.
I had the opportunity to talk to the two stars about their ongoing podcast, I hear voices, in which they chat with the biggest voice-over stars. During our chat, I couldn’t help but ask the two stars what they thought of the comic book retellings of their popular sitcoms. Christy Carlson Romano seemed very excited to revisit her classic character of hers, Ren Stevens, in this way. She even believes that, for various reasons, this type of project may be the best way to reintroduce the Stevens family:
OMG I think you just found the solution to reset Even Stevens. Mainly because honestly, I think with animation and with people who can express that animation, it’s so much more liberating. There’s an energy to being behind a mic that we’ve talked about on the podcast, it’s so low key about the camera and how you look, and you’re very present in the moment as you deliver your lines. And you don’t have a lot of distractions coming, I think, like talent. And I think with Even Stevens it would be a lot of fun, because we were really a situational comedy with fantasy elements. And it’s just safer. You know, it’s safer for child actors, if they want to, you know, do these cool things. I think that sounds like a great idea, actually.
Stephen too he definitely walked the line when it came to realism and fantasy, and his creative sensibilities would certainly lend themselves to animation. (Louis’ strange dreams only they are worthy of a caricature). Plus, it stands to reason that Christy Carlson Romano can still bring Ren to life like she did years ago. Her voice acting skills are well known, having provided the voice of the titular heroine in Kim possible and has played a variety of other roles over the years. Personally, I’d also like to see many of her former co-stars join her in her a Steve sequel series.
boy meets worldobviously, it got the spin-off treatment a few years ago, courtesy of the Disney Channel. girl meets world which was about Cory and Topanga’s daughter Matthew . Will Friedl he reprized his beloved role of the eccentric Eric Matthews in season two and eventually appeared in several episodes before the show ended in 2017. It seems Friedle is still up for another branch, though former child actor I’m not sure if a full series is the way to go:
I probably wouldn’t bring it back as a series, but maybe as a special. You know, maybe a Boy Meets World animated special could be very, very interesting. And it lends itself to… I mean, we’re both Disney Kids, so the animation and music that you could put in could really lend itself to the Disney world. … I think it’s a very, very interesting idea.
Whereas fans last checked in with Cory Matthews and co. Less than ten years ago, I would prefer just one stage. Will Friedle and many other members of the boy meets world problem It seems they still have a lot of affection for the TGIF sitcom, so it wouldn’t be surprising if they too are interested in joining this theoretical adventure. I’d be curious to see other mixes of BMW Yup girl meets world Plus, the idea of Eric getting into some truly cartoonish shenanigans is just too fun to deny.
Nostalgia is certainly selling these days, as many companies (including Disney) revamp their most popular franchises. So, in all honesty, the chances of the aforementioned reboots happening aren’t that slim. Here’s hoping Christy Carlson Romano and Will Friedle finally get a chance to revisit their famous characters through animation.
