Spoilers ahead for the second season premiere of how i met your father!
Hilary Duff returns for the second season of how i met your father, and this time there are twice as many episodes as in the first season. While her character Sophie continues to look for “the one” on the Hulu series, she’ll be dating guys you might not expect, and that includes someone a little older. Now Duff is opening up about her John Corbett playing her older lover, having taken on a very different role in a film with her a while back.
Die-hard Hilary Duff fans may remember the much underrated film she directed in 2004 titled Speak louder. The film had his teenage character attend a musical performance after his brother’s death, against his father’s wishes, and John Corbett played his mentor and teacher. Fast forward 19 years and the two will be playing love interests HIMYF!
In a new interview on Late Night with Seth Meyers, the actress touched on this very topic. The two love interests when Duff was a teenager obviously didn’t happen, but she’s now 35 compared to Corbett’s 61. Now that Duff is older, she had a funny response when Meyers pointed out that she once played her teacher. She said:
Sure! And now we welcome it. [It would have been] very very bad. So that didn’t happen. She is now 35 years old. It’s wonderful.
While Sophie was trying to find the love of her life, it was only a matter of time before she decided to date someone older after finding people her age not exactly working. The fact that her new boyfriend was someone who played Duff’s teacher is certainly a little unexpected, but stranger things have happened. It’s unclear which episode she appears in and for how long, but it’s definitely something to look forward to as the season progresses. See the full interview for yourself:
Meanwhile, John Corbett isn’t the only big name to talk about appearing in season two of how i met your father. The first episode ended in shock when Sophie accidentally hit a car in front of her. The person who came out was none other than Neil Patrick Harris as Barney Stinson. It should be interesting to see what happens when his story finally kicks in, and if anything HIMYM the stars will reprise their roles in season two.
