HBO has reached an agreement with the production company Legendary Entertainment “to develop and co-produce a series based on Leïla Slimani’s book ‘Chanson douce’ (The Perfect Nanny, in English, editor’s note),” the American giant announced this Saturday. television in a statement.

In the cast of the future series, the Australian-American star Nicole Kidman and the American actress Maya Erskine, who will also co-executive produce.

This is the second film adaptation of the novel. soft song (Gallimard editions) for which Leïla Slimani won the Prix Goncourt in 2016, the most prestigious literary award in France.

The book, which has sold more than a million copies in France and has been translated around the world, has already been adapted for film in France by director Lucie Borleteau with Leïla Bekhti and Karin Viard in the lead roles.

The novel narrates the murder of two young children by their nanny, an experienced and strange woman who had grown fond of the children’s parents. It is inspired by a crime committed in October 2012 in New York that claimed the lives of two children, ages two and six. The murderer was sentenced in May 2018 to life imprisonment.

Can it be seen in France?

Until recently, it was the OCS platform that broadcast HBO series in France. But the contract that linked her to the American channel expired in 2023 and, to date, these programs are no longer available in France. But a new offer should arrive soon: Prime Video has announced the upcoming launch of a “Warner Pass”, which will offer access to shows from HBO and twelve channels from the Warner group.
