The Brenaissance has hit a new high after Brendan Fraser’s first Oscar nomination for his acclaimed performance in The whale. Fans couldn’t be happier with the success of his career. Of course, in the manner of Fraser, the Mummy Star had it all figured out as she pondered her comeback (something she wouldn’t necessarily call it that). Like fans, Fraser’s family was thrilled to celebrate this milestone in the beloved actor’s career. Following his first Best Actor Oscar nomination, Fraser revealed the perfect way his children helped him celebrate the moment.
The Hollywood star opened up to Variety about how sweet and proper she is as she continues her awards season at AARP’s Movies for Grownups Awards. The Fraser children’s celebration was in keeping with the star’s humble likability as they celebrated her father’s birthday. Fraser kept it short and simple, saying:
They brought me a cake and some balloons.
The humble celebration couldn’t be more Brendan Fraser than just cake and balloons. While the celebration was a little sweet, the cake the Oscar nominee received wasn’t just store-bought or homemade. It was Carvel’s classic Fudgie the Whale ice cream cake. The Father’s Day paper clip was a must-have gift for all dads in the 70s and 80s on a special day. However, the Fraser boys decided that Oscar nomination day was just as important as Father’s Day, and Fudgie was just the right celebratory dessert. The real question is whether the cake had “For Daddy’s Whale!” written with icing on top?
Being able to eat ice cream cake with her kids wasn’t just another celebration for the Encino Man Star. Fraser got sentimental as he reminded the Hollywood trade how important it was to celebrate his appointment with his children.
It is a central memory for me.
It’s nice to know that sharing the legendary cake with your children will be one of those memories to be treasured for years to come. Sometimes these simple moments speak to a person’s heart rather than an elaborate extravagance full of pomp and circumstance.
After taking time away from Hollywood, Brendan Fraser receives his flowers as he racks up nomination after nomination for The whale. He has appeared at every award show (except the Golden Globes). Fraser said thoughts of “surprise, awe, happiness, hope, and humility” came to mind when his name was “the fulfillment of an aspiration.” Right now, the race for Best Actor appears to be between him and Elvis“Austin Butler. However, they will have to fight fellow candidates Colin Farrell, Paul Mescal and Bill Nighy.
Of course, viewers will have to wait until the 95th Academy Awards broadcast on ABC on March 12 at 8 p.m. EST to see if Brendan Fraser wins his first Oscar. Meanwhile, the Oscar nominee has a few projects lined up, including the Martin Scorsese-directed western. moonflower killers. Find out when these movies arrive by checking our 2023 movie schedule.
