Light spoilers below for those unfamiliar with HBO. The Last of Usso be careful!
With its fourth live release, HBO The Last of Us took viewers into the video game’s harrowing Hunters story arc, via a new location and antagonist in Melanie Lynskey’s revenge Kathleen, while also providing our first look at young survivor Sam. Episode 5 appears to revolve around her shared introduction with his brother Henry, the TV series that upset his material origins. Which likely means viewers will be waiting another week for Storm Reid to arrive based on the flashback of Riley, another major teen playing squarely into Ellie’s backstory. But it looks like it will be worth the wait, as seen in the video above.
Gossipify spoke to Storm Reid In front of her The Last of Us guest appearance to promote the famous sequel to the thriller Missing , and shared how excited he was to bring Riley into the world of live action. When his opinion was asked, the Euphoria The star shared a menacing tease that fits perfectly with what one would expect from Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann’s adaptation. In her words:
It means the world. I’m so lucky and so grateful to be a part of The Last of Us universe now, to be able to play Riley, a character that people love, especially Ellie and Riley being together. I think people will be heartbroken when they see our episode. But he’s so beautiful, and Bella is so talented. To be able to work with this whole team, with Neil, with Craig, they’re all amazing. So I’m very grateful to be a part of The Last of Us.
Of course, speaking of a show that refused to confirm episode titles until after the first few broadcasts, Storm Reid didn’t delve into the details, lest she address Clicker-wrath’s powers that be straight-up horror drama. But it really does feel like the TV show took the time to give Riley and Ellie’s shared past just the right amount, if not the right amount of attention. Missing Star’s idea that this is a heartbreaking episode might seem a little hyperbolic.

As fans of the franchise know, Riley’s story wasn’t explored in the standalone version of the game, but rather in the first DLC released. left behindand in the tie-in comic miniseries The Last of Us: American Dreams. She and Ellie first bonded in their boarding school, and one pivotal trip to an abandoned mall delivers some of the game’s greatest moments of pure joy and fun. But considering Riley still isn’t playing Ellie when viewers meet her, it’s at least a vague indication that something has gone wrong. Something heartbreaking? Very likely.
Episode 104, “Please Hold My Hand,” may have offered up a key game-changing detail when it comes to Riley’s arrival. (A turning point in the most literal sense here.) After the ambush began that wrongfully destroyed Bill’s truck, not that he realizes it at this point, Ellie rescued Joel from a windpipe, crushed while shooting to one of the hunters, even if he wasn’t so eager to complete the deed. Later, however, she revealed that this would not be her first death, but she chose not to explain, only implying that it was a sticky situation. So it would make sense for Mazin and Druckmann to choose to move this defining moment in Riley’s story to give it more weight. I dare not wait for the most However, a heartbreaking twist could happen.
To counter such thoughts, the TV show could be going against the odds by giving Storm Reid’s Riley a backstory that allows him to return for season 2 now confirmed ? Or, as happened with Nico Parker’s bloody Sarah flashback, will audiences experience all of the aforementioned angst in a single episode? The second is much more probable, of course, but one can dream.
