While Disney’s Marvel Cinematic Universe has grown into a beloved superhero franchise, there are still many who yearn for past superhero movies like Fox. x-men saga. The long-running film franchise has had its ups and downs, but is considered instrumental in helping kick-start the modern comic book movie craze. While the features are great fun, the stars themselves have revealed that working conditions aren’t always easy. Many attributed it to Bryan Singer, who made four installments. There was a lot of talk about how he would operate on set, and we’ll discuss the cast’s comments.
Franchise OGs Halle Berry and Hugh Jackman have been candid about partnering with Bryan Singer
Bryan Singer’s work in the superhero genre began with x-men, which topped the box office in 2000 and received considerable acclaim. Judging by the quality of the production, you’d think everything was perfect, even though Halle Berry has since she claimed she and Singer had a falling out in the middle of production. Berry once detailed how serious their backstage confrontations would be:
Sometimes I got really mad at him. I had a few arguments with him, I said some bad words out of sheer frustration. When I work, I think so. And when it’s compromised, I go a little crazy. But at the same time, I have a lot of compassion for people who struggle with whatever they’re struggling with, and Bryan struggles.
Note that the Oscar-winning actor did not specify which productions they had their disagreements about. What he did say, however, was that the outbreaks were partially triggered by “everything I fight with.” According to what was said above Bryan Singer (whom he previously sued for alleged rape) , has been known to disappear from the set from time to time. Berry also said that she didn’t always seem “present” when she was there. Given the stories that have been circulating in recent years, one can’t help but wonder what the stars now think of the film’s legacy. Hugh Jackman was asked if Singer’s reputation was polluted and gave them a diplomatic answer:
You know, it’s a very, very complicated question. There’s a lot at stake there. X-Men was the turning point, I think, in terms of comic book movies and I think that’s something to be proud of. And there are definitely questions to ask and I think we need to ask them. But I guess I don’t know how to answer this elegantly. I think it’s complex and ultimately I look back with pride on what we accomplished and the momentum that started.
It’s hard not to sympathize with Hugh Jackman and his peers, as they produced beloved films that left a noticeable mark on pop culture. It’s easy to see why the Australian actor would be somewhat conflicted when it comes to balancing his pride in his work with his feelings for the director. Although some of the actors who worked on later films have given somewhat clearer answers.
Additional comments were made by Sophie Turner and Olivia Munn
The two prequels directed by Bryan Singer, future past days AND Apocalypse, has introduced a number of new faces. One such actor is Olivia Munn, who played Betsy Braddock aka Psylocke in the latest film. It was her first big studio film, and as Munn explained, her he’s had his share of fights with Singer doing this:
When we made X-Men, I had never made a big movie like this before. I didn’t know what was right or wrong, but I knew it seemed strange that Bryan Singer would get a checkup and say he had a thyroid problem. Instead of going to a doctor in Montreal, which is a very elegant working class city, he said he had to go to Los Angeles. And he was gone for about 10 days, if I remember correctly. And he said, ‘Keep going. Keep filming. We were on set, I remember there was a great scene we had, and we were walking back from lunch, and then one of Bryan’s assistants would come in and show us a cell phone with a message on it.
The actress further claimed that she would text the actors, telling them that he was busy but that they would have to continue filming without him. While she was making these comments, she also mentioned Fox’s eventual decision to hire him as director of Bohemian Rhapsody from which he was subsequently fired . If so, he would have clashed with lead actor Rami Malek, and Jean Gray actress Sophie Turner quoted Malek about his experience with the director in X-Men: Apocalypse:
Our time together was, as Rami said, unpleasant.
The various comments that have been documented thus far indicate that the stars’ time working with Bryan Singer has been less than favorable. The singer was even challenged by Jennifer Lawrence, who played Mystique in the previous films, when she mentioned the “emotional men” she would work with on film sets. In the midst of all these feelings, another x-men the alum has provided a different kind of perspective more recently.
Brian Cox remembers working with Bryan Singer on X2
x2 It’s still revered as one of the franchise’s best installments, and one reason is Brian Cox’s impeccable portrayal of the villainous William Stryker. Cox was recently asked what it was like to work with the the usual suspects director and, discussing with Yahoo! Fun , stated that the director was “a lot of stress” during production. He also shed some light on his creative process:
I would have a thought, and then I would have to think again [the scene]. So it’s always been a tough transition for him. But once I got it he sorted it out very quickly and was able to move on. I think he’s an amazing director, very, very talented. Of course I will always be grateful to him because he trusted me and he got me the role. I played a waiting game and it worked.
Despite everything that has gone down with Bryan Singer over the years, few would deny that he has produced some memorable films. x-men– connected or not. Singer hasn’t been credited as a director on a film since 2018, and after the allegations and a slew of comments from the cast, one can only speculate whether he will ever direct another film.
They x-men film (which we have listed in chronological order) can be transmitted using a Disney+ subscription . While you wait for news of the upcoming MCU reboot, read up on the others upcoming Marvel movies .
