The horror genre is known for its long-running franchises, but there are few that are as beloved Scream. That’s why audiences were so excited when the property returned to theaters in 2022, with a fifth sequel directed by Ready or Not directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett . The film It was a success that another suite was ordered, with cry VI catch up with the two surviving brothers from the last film. This includes Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega as Sam and Tara Carpenter, respectively. And Barrera recently spoke to Gossipify about forming an “easy” sibling connection with her on-screen sister.
Jenna Ortega is all over the place lately, thanks to her performances in projects like the one on netflix You , horror movie xAND (obviously) from Netflix Wednesday series . She filmed her role in 2022 Scream movies before she was a huge star, and she’s back cry VI with Melissa Barrera. As you can see in the video above, I had the privilege of speaking with the cast ahead of the film’s release. I asked Barrera what it was like to form that brotherly bond and he said:
It’s so funny because from the moment we met it was so easy and natural. We met on Zoom for the first time and it was right there. And I think that’s why Matt and Tyler were like, “It’s the girls.” Because it was as if we had known each other forever. I am a very protective older sister, I have three little sisters in real life. So the idea that this older sister would go above and beyond to protect her little sister was something that felt very natural to me.
How sweet it is? It seems that the close relationship shared between Sam and Tara in the last two Scream Movies are real both on and off camera. Because, as Melissa Barrera said, she gets strong big sister vibes from Jenna Ortega. And it seems their connection was pretty immediate, even though the two met over Zoom.
2022 Scream The film was shot in full Covid, with very strict protocols for cast and crew. Therefore, the meetings took place via Zoom, before everyone gathered on set. Either way, the Carpenter sisters were able to rock instantly which really shined through their performances.
Of course, the four surviving brothers of the last Scream They will be different for their return cry VI. They’ve obviously changed since surviving their own fights with Ghostface, which led to their move. from Woodsboro to New York . Later, in my own chat with Melissa Barrera, she talked about how the new slasher changes the dynamic between Sam and Tara. In her words:
I love that you get to spend so much time with them in the next movie and see more color in their relationship. Because in the fifth it’s more or less the younger sister who gets attacked and the older sister who just tries to protect her. In this, you can see the frustration that comes with spending so much time together. It is very common in a sibling relationship when they live together. So you can see the friction, and you can see the laughter, and you can see now that the younger sister is protecting the older one. So it’s a beautiful thing to play with someone that I love as much as Jenna.
Some serious observations have been made. While Jenna Ortega’s Tara made history as the first Scream The character survived the initial attack scene, her injuries preventing her from sharing too many scenes with Melissa Barrera’s Sam. In fact, Tara was attacked at home and in the hospital in the first half of the 2022 film. But that won’t be the case with cry VIwhich should further develop the relationship between the two sisters and how the trauma of the last film has affected them.
Luckily for the fans, meanwhile Scream is about to end. The film hits theaters this weekend and the the reviews are quite enthusiastic . While Neve Campbell’s Sideny Prescott will be noticeably absent, this change seems to have given Sam and Tara’s relationship more time to take center stage. And in doing so, Ghostface’s attacks are surprisingly emotional.
cry VI hits theaters November 10. In the meantime, check out the Movie release dates 2023 to plan your next movie experience.
