After a fierce campaign, it was finally Michelle Yeoh who won the Oscar for best actress on Sunday for Everything everywhere at once.
Michelle Yeoh picked up the Best Actress statuette for her role as a laundromat owner trying to save multitudes of parallel universes from the clutches of a mad supervillain.
A true legend of Hong Kong cinema, Michelle Yeoh became the first winner of Asian origin this Sunday to win this award. She had never been named before.
The Malaysian actress has become the first actress of Asian descent to win this award. “To all the little boys and girls watching tonight that look like me, this is a symbol of hope and possibility,” she said excitedly. “It’s history in motion.”
