Johnny Hallyday remains among the most listened to artists in France

In the midst of an avalanche of rappers, Johnny Hallyday remains in sixth place among the most bought and listened to artists in France in 2022.

Immortal Johnny Hallyday. Five years after his death, the favorite French rocker retains a favorite place among the most purchased and most listened to artists in France in 2022, according to figures released Tuesday by the National Phonographic Publishing Union (Snep). Surrounded on both sides by rappers, Jul, Ninho, Orelsan, PNL, Lomepal precede him in the ranking, followed by Damso and Nefeu, Johnny Hallyday ranks 6th.

Two albums in the top 200

Stromae and The Weeknd round out the top 10, where no female artist manages to climb. Angèle, the first woman in the top 20, is only 14th in the ranking. We also find Gazo, SCH, Naps and Vald, which confirms the very urban content of this top 20.

In addition, two Johnny Hallyday albums are still in the top 200 best-selling albums in France 2022, Johnny Act II the artist’s second posthumous album, at number 146, and the compilation Legend – Best of 40 Titlesin position 175.

The singer therefore seems timeless, and always present in the hearts of his fans. A major exhibition dedicated to his life and career, currently on view in Brussels, is coming to Paris in 2024, keeping Johnnymania going. Laeticia Hallyday has also expressed her desire to stage a musical based on her songs.

Several posthumous albums also prolong the myth, unpublished lives, as well as compilations of pieces rearranged with symphonic orchestrations, Johnny (in 2019) and Johnny Act II (in 2021).
