breakthrough resumed its last episode with WELL in court as a public defender with a huge caseload. He also had to help a teenager wrongfully convicted of murder, even though he had no legal experience. addison decided to label Jenny to serve as his hologram assistant, given her law degree, and Jenn quickly learned that helping Ben in this role was a far cry from her usual duties. Ironically, the actress nanris lee learned the same thing, when the actress spoke to Gossipify about swapping places with Caitlin Bassette for the episode.
Nanrisa Lee’s Jenn has spent most of this season either helping Ben in the Quantum Leap lab or going on missions to track down people of interest related to the big, mysterious threat Ben is trying to stop. Last episode, Jenn had to interact with Ben alone and try to help solve the murder case despite her being invisible to everyone during the jump. I asked Lee if it was weird having Jenn in scenes where most of the other characters ignored her, and she revealed that it suited her and the guest stars:
It took me some time to get used to it. It is funny. I think it has to be one thing whenever we have a guest, sometimes they get forgotten because as an actor you’re supposed to listen and acknowledge, right? So it’s like, ‘Oh that’s right, that’s right, you’re a hologram. You can’t be there.
Jenn and Ben weren’t as natural as Addison and Ben, but that was to be expected. After all, the latter breakthrough the characters are engaged and Ben couldn’t even remember who Jenn was during their fling due to her memory loss. Jenn helped Ben remember Magicthough that only made the sting of not remembering her a little more painful.
Behind the scenes, Nanrisa Lee confirmed to Gossipify that she’s excited to be filming as the series’ lead. Raymond Lee. He also noted that Caitlin Bassett gave him a “crash course” in how to act when he worked as a hologram assistant, noting that some of the job was more complicated than the rest:
Caitlin [Bassett] he put me on a little crash course to become a hologram. We did the manual link step and it showed me how he uses it and where he sees things, how he goes in and out and how he holds it. This thing is harder to hold than I thought. He slipped from my hands and fell. The props were starting to get mad at me, I was scared to break them.
I never imagined that hand tie could be so unruly! Either way, Nanrisa Lee managed to finish the episode with the hand link intact so Jen could tag Addison again for the next adventure. Though it doesn’t look like Jen is coming back to help Ben breakthrough in the short term, we know something bad is brewing for Addison.
If he is eliminated, Ben may have to rely on Jenn, Magic or ian to take you to the next jump until you find your way back. Unfortunately we know Sam Becket he’s either still jumping or dead, so there’s a chance Ben will never find his way back. Still, I remain optimistic, especially with the reveal that a future version of Ian has set out to meet Ben ahead of his mysterious mission.
