To call Morgan Freeman a legend when it comes to acting would be an understatement. Freeman’s best movies. – AS Life imprisonment, Driving Miss Daisy AND million dollar girl – has more than proven to be one of the greatest artists of all time. But his esteemed reputation didn’t stop him A good person director, Zach Braff, to ask him to do several takes. And it turns out the Oscar-winning actor had a hilarious response when asked.
It is true that yes Morgan Freeman plays a world leader or lending his triumphant voice to the narration of his documentaries , comes across as relatively blameless. However, that doesn’t mean you won’t be required to do multiple takes during any given production. Zach Braff spoke to our folks ReelBlend podcasts From what it was like directing Freeman In A good person. It appears the two creatives have struck up a solid relationship, which Braff could only laugh about after revealing Freeman’s one-word response to doing more than one take:
Well, the funny thing about Morgan is you pick one up and go, “That was great, guys. Go again! And you hear, ‘Why?’ [laughs]
I mean, I guess the 85-year-old star felt like she had it the first time. In his defense of him, she’s been doing it for over 50 years and will likely know when something feels right to him. Not to mention, he’s also dabbled in directing, thanks to the 1993 political drama. Bofa! and three episodes of madam secretary. Still, you can’t fault its director for wanting to have different options when he finally embarks on the editing process.
Zach Braff made his directorial debut with his indie project the state of the garden and has worked with several great talents in front of and behind the camera. During the interview, he talked more about his favorite part of working with such esteemed actors as a director:
But here’s the thing. The truth is, I’ve worked with De Niro as an actor. I’ve worked with Morgan, Michael Caine, Alan Arkin and just directed Harrison Ford for Shrinking. I’ve been very fortunate to work with some of these incredible legends. They want to be led. They don’t want someone who is intimidated, speechless and afraid of them. It’s your nightmare. They want someone with a point of view. They certainly don’t want to be told how to behave. I would never do that. But it’s a conversation. They want to be stimulated by a conversation.
As your comments suggest, asking someone to do more takes is absolutely not a way to criticize their acting, it’s more about collaborating with an actor, sharing your point of view and how you see the scene. Obviously, things worked out in the Morgan Freeman case. In A good person, Freeman plays a father, who forms a bond with his future daughter-in-law (Florence Pugh) years after his son’s death.
Zach Braff had a chance to see the Almighty Bruce actor filming scenes in his hometown high school like him scrubs alum always tries to give his films a personal touch. If I saw my favorite high-profile actor walking around my alma mater, I’d probably be excited too.
