Why didn’t Law & Order explain Anthony Anderson’s absence as Kevin Bernard from the first crossover?

Spoilers ahead for season previews of Law and order, Law and order: SVUYes Law and order: organized crime on NBC.

Right is back for season 22 in a historic three-part crossover with SVU Yes Organized crimeand the result was a cinematic television event featuring some of the biggest names in network television. It turns out, however, that one of the biggest names was missing from the event RightThe first season of revival, like antonio anderson it didn’t seem anywhere Det. Kevin Bernardand none of the three episodes addressed his absence … for a reason.

Anthony Anderson’s departure from Right after returning for the first season of revival it was announced in the summer hence every fan he has kept an eye on THIS the headlines during the hiatus already knew they weren’t expecting it, but the season 22 premiere matched Jeffrey Donovanthis is Franco Cosgrove with new regular series flow mehcad Jalen Shaw right away without mentioning your partner recently the finale of season 21 in May . So why did the show ignore the character?

Well, that’s because the character will be mentioned in the next episode. Right showrunner Rick Eid (who was previously showrunner on Chicago police) revealed in August that Bernard would be mentioned in the second episode of season 22, though it will be very short . She didn’t give any details on why Bernard went missing, but the promise of an update is also more than enough. PS fans got into it sudden absence of Lisseth Chávez What red officer two years ago!

So the main reason Bernard is not recognized in the premiere is because the show is keeping the mention for the second episode next week. While I probably would have appreciated at least one name drop, I can understand why Eid decided to skip it this week.

The three-part crossover was packed from start to finish, having to combine the cast of three ensemble shows into a sprawling case that involved everything from sex trafficking to shootings and even an explosion. If the goal was to use every minute of screen time to set the stage and tell the story, then maybe it’s best to save Bernard’s mention for next week. Also, it meant that Mehcad Brooks’ character’s arrival wasn’t overshadowed by Kevin Bernard’s departure.

So, will the next mention of Bernard be the last time viewers have heard of him, and was the season 21 finale the last time anyone would see Anthony Anderson as a detective? The actor recently weighed and told 24 News Bulletin he “wouldn’t have a problem coming back”, but shared that he wanted to “develop some new things”.

Since the co-star Odelya Halevi I only had good things to say about what he brought to the set, I guess he might come back someday. For now, though, viewers can expect answers to his absence and see Detective Shaw in action with Cosgrove.

see the rest Right after the three-part crossover with new episodes in the TV program 2022 Thursdays at 8 p.m. ET on NBC. The original series opens a full night of Right act, with SVU at 21 and Organized crime at 22:00
