While Samara Weaving prides herself on being a Scream Queen, the actress isn’t looking to be pigeonholed into just one type of movie. While audiences may notice a pattern the actress finds herself in in many horror films, she’s not ready to settle for one genre. And she certainly isn’t guessing that her latest film on the 2023 movie calendar is Gentlemana biopic about a black classical composer who has been largely erased from music history.
Gentleman tells the story of Joseph Bologne, Chevalier de Saint-Georges, a French Creole conductor who conducted orchestras for Marie Antoinette’s court before being involved in the French Revolution. Yo highly recommended Gentleman for many reasons One of them is undoubtedly Samara Weaving’s interpretation of the singer Marquise Marie-Joséphine de Montalembert, with whom she had an affair. Weaving shared her thoughts on the subject of her latest film in these words:
I couldn’t believe we didn’t know anything about him. That we don’t know about him and that he’s been completely erased from history. I mean, he gave Mozart his money’s worth… I think they’re still discovering more and more of his works than him. But being able to pretend to sing them and listen to them was really amazing.
