Warning: SPOILERS for the superman and laws The episode “Of Sound Mind” is coming!
Earlier this month, the forest actress Daya Vaidya appeared superman and laws episode “Head On” as an unnamed cancer patient who spoke to Tyler Hoechlin’s Clark Kent while Elizabeth Tulloch’s Lois Lane was undergoing chemotherapy. From tonight’s episode, “Of Sound Mind,” it was revealed that this character, called Peia, is much more important to this season, because she is not only romantically linked to Chad L. Coleman’s Bruno Mannheim, but also to powerful onomatopoeia. So it stands to reason that we’ll be seeing a lot more of her over the course of the season, and Vaidya spoke to Gossipify about her fantastic experiences working with Coleman and Hoechlin, whom she called “acting’s soul mate,” and who the latter called him “the acting soul mate”. which he described as “Superman in real life”.
Before this episode aired, I spoke to Daya Vaidya about her work at superman and laws, which actually deserves a lot more love (HBO Max subscribers can now stream the first two seasons). After her first appearance on The CW series, the actress shared on Instagram how some of her dialogue was taken from words she said to producers in real life when she was cast, and she told me she was “touched.” by the writers who were willing to add that “authenticity” to the character. About what it was like to shoot his first scene superman and lawsVaidya said this:
It was very, I think I wrote on my Instagram, art that completely imitates life. It was weird to be in a situation that I experienced in real life, so to be a character. It was amazing and also cathartic for me. It was fun, I feel like I worked through a lot of things on set. But I was also able to delve into the character. Tyler [Hoechlin] and worked together [he’s an] amazing actor, amazing person and boy was he right there. You know what I mean? I have to tell him about it off screen, and then he was there. Allegra, who played the older woman, was also the same. I think she brought everyone together faster. She brought us closer faster [way]if it makes sense, because it was a profound experience.
At the end of “Too Close to Home”, Lois has decided that she will register as a chemo patient at the hospital located in Hob’s Bay, run by Bruno Mannheim, as she is determined to find evidence that would expose him as one of the Metropolis members. best crime bosses. As Lois tried to track Bruno down in “Stand Tall,” Clark chatted with Peia and the other chemo patient about her experiences with breast cancer, giving him a better idea of what awaited Lois during her own battle with the breast. cancer.
But now we know that Daya Vaidya’s character is more closely tied to this season’s story than just being a patient in the same hospital as Lois Lane. She and Bruno Mannheim are married and she gets her hands dirty with the criminal organization Onomatopoeia, which manipulates sound and has been a DC Comics villain for over 20 years. “Of Sound Mind” saw her and Superman come to blows, but unfortunately after the battle it was revealed that her powers were waning. While Vaidya of course didn’t spoil the end of this fight when I interviewed her, she complimented Tyler Hoechlin on her work ethic saying:
He’s one of the best actors I’ve worked with, a true professional. He set the tone, I feel like I learned a lot from him because he’s so good at conveying the physical prowess of the character because a big part when you play a role like that is in your physique. So I just watched and absorbed, and I watched a lot, and we have a fantastic stunt team and a stunt supervisor, and I think together that’s how we put together a lot of mannerisms, physiques, that slowly developed the character. I will say that I have a stunt guy who started him and I had to step in when I got into the role so he’s going to evolve over the next few episodes. But Tyler never gets tired. He really is Superman in real life. I was like, ‘Are you tired?’ He doesn’t get tired.
We tested onomatopoeia for the first time in superman and laws towards the end of the season 3 premiere when he appeared to “shoot” Henry Miller using his sonic powers before saying too much, then returned in the next episode to kill George Dean and gather evidence. The mayor hid it after Lana Lang and John Henry Irons found it. At the time I spoke to Daya Vaidya, she too was unwilling to go into detail about her character dynamic with Bruno Mannheim, but confirmed my guess that Onomatopoeia is no longer a crime boss’s servant, and then did a shower in Chad. Colemann. with honneurs:
Yes, I would say they are on an equal footing. It’s also a complicated relationship that will reveal itself more and more as the season progresses. I think they complement each other so that part will need to be developed. I would say that Chad as a human being, person, without sounding hyperbolic, was like my acting soulmate. He and I just went into town. I can say that we had a lot of fun. I think he’s a stage actor, I’m from the theatre, we both really love the job, so we’ve had a lot of fun going pretty far, and I think we’ve had a similar process. We take it very seriously. It wasn’t just a little TV superhero thing for us. The writers wrote some really gritty, deep, layered stuff that we could dig into. So he and I were nice. On set, we play against each other, so I’m very excited… I’ll watch it with you. I don’t know what it’s going to be like, but I know that while we were doing it, it was pretty magical.
The full extent of Bruno Mannheim’s plan remains a mystery, but in addition to giving terminally ill prisoners superpowers in exchange for carrying out the villain’s directives, we also saw at the end of “Stand Tall” that he had his people at a DOD facility to recover Bizarro Superman’s body, and that’s obviously going to cause problems. Between all of that and the power of Onomatopoeia, not to mention Michael Cudlitz’s Lex Luthor arriving later in the season, Superman has a lot going on in his life as a superhero. Now the big question on my mind: when will Clark and Lois learn that Peia and Onomatopoeia are the same thing?
new episodes of superman and laws airs Tuesdays at 8 p.m. As of right now, it’s unclear if the DC series will return for season 4, but lead actor Wolé Parks is optimistic about its chances of a renewal.
