The crown We will definitely be back in November. If the death of Queen Elizabeth II in early September raised fears of a postponement, Netflix confirmed this Saturday that the fifth season of its series on the life of the monarch will be broadcast from November 9. A sneak peek featuring Diana (Elizabeth Debicki) has been posted online.
This new season will take place between 1990 and 1997, from John Major’s rise to power to Diana’s fatal car accident. The series will also address family tensions within the Windsors, including the divorces of Charles and Diana and Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson.
William and Kate in season 6
After Claire Foy and Olivia Colman, it’s up to Imelda Staunton to play Elizabeth II. The rest of the cast will consist of Jonathan Pryce (Philip), Lesley Manville (Margaret), Dominic West (Charles), Elizabeth Debicki (Diana), Khalid Abdallas (Dodi Al-Fayed) and Olivia Williams (Camilla Parker Bowles).
The filming of the sixth season, which was stopped days after the death of Elizabeth II, began in August. The young actors who will play William and Kate have been chosen: they are Ed McVey and Meg Bellamy. This season, billed as the last, will trace William and Harry’s adolescence after Diana’s death.
The multiple Emmy award-winning series, America’s television equivalent of the Oscars, has seen a resurgence in popularity since the death of Queen Elizabeth II last September.
